Hearthstone Update 24.2 Patch Notes: Battlegrounds Season 2 Arrives

Battlegrounds Season 2 was released and a hotfix patch was released as well. The patch notes include numerous updates for Hearthstone’s auto battler. Let’s go over the modifications.

General Updates

To account for the new Quest mechanic, Turn 4 (the 6 Gold turn) will have its turn time slightly extended.

When selling minions or otherwise gaining Gold during the shop phase, players can now earn more than 10 Gold.

The starting-of-turn maximum remains at 10 Gold.

Weekly Quests that are exclusive to Battlegrounds (such as “Finish Top 4 in Battlegrounds”) have been removed from the general Weekly Quests rotation and converted into Battlegrounds Missions.

Other Daily and Weekly Quests can still be completed in Battlegrounds or other Modes.

Season 2 is being celebrated with a series of three Legendary Quests that award new Battlegrounds cosmetics.

Minion and Hero Changes

Toggwaggle’s nerf is the first major Battlegrounds change we notice after all the Hearthstone standard balance updates in the patch notes.

Since its inception, Toggwaggle has been a top-tier Hero. It is ranked second best by HsReplay, just behind Ysera.

While reducing Togg’s Hero Power by one Gold may not appear to be significant, it is.

This change prevents players from power leveling up to Tavern 3 and then stealing the entire shop.

While the patch notes for Battlegrounds don’t go into detail, it’s understandable that facing an unbeatable Hero on turn 4 wasn’t the best experience.

Bug Fixes

After being stolen, the Ring of Tides continued to update based on the original owner’s spells, which were fixed.

Fixed a bug that caused the Imp created by Imp Gang Boss to lose its “Imp” tag.

A bug that prevented the Darkmoon Training Session Prize from interacting with the Sire Denathrius has been fixed.

Minions Updates

Toxfin is reintroduced into the minion pool.

The minion pool has been reduced by the removal of Kooky Chemist, Steward of Time, Bublette, Silverback Patriarch.

Also, Icky Imp, Nathrezim Overseer, Soul Devourer, Briny Bootlegger, Shifter Zerus, Cobalt Scalebane, Witchwing Nestmatron, Mythrax the Unraveler, and SI:Sefin.

Impulsive Trickster

Old: [Tavern Tier 1] 2 Attack, 2 Health → New: [Tavern Tier 2] 2 Attack, 3 Health

Drakonid Enforcer

Old: [Tavern Tier 3] 2 Attack, 4 Health → New: [Tavern Tier 4] 3 Attack, 7 Health

Imprisoner

Old: [Tavern Tier 2] 3 Attack, 3 Health → New: [Tavern Tier 1] 2 Attack, 2 Health

Battlegrounds Quests Changes

Quests, the new content mechanic from Battlegrounds Season 2, has already seen two balance changes.

The following changes, according to the patch note, are relative to the baseline requirement of each Battlegrounds quest.

Those are adjusted based on a variety of factors, including the number of minions available, the Hero chosen, and the Reward with which they are paired.

Hearthstone

Hearthstone’s new virtual currency is runestones. Runestones can be purchased with money and used in the same way that money can be used for almost all Hearthstone products across all modes.

The prices of products do not change; they are simply converted to Runestones.

One advantage of these changes is that we can now offer smaller-scale items in the shop, such as individual Skins or Battlegrounds Emotes, that would previously have had to be bundled with other items.

Updates for Leaderboards

The Hearthstone leaderboards have been updated. Standard, Wild, Classic, Battlegrounds, and Mercenaries leaderboards will now have live updates.

All leaderboards will now use a Season number (as Battlegrounds does now) instead of a month and year.

Finally, there is no longer a limit to the number of people who can be displayed on those leaderboards.

This means that all Legend-rank players will be listed in Standard, Wild, and Classic.
