Wards effectively eliminate this by creating a small circle of clarity around the ward. This means you’ll be able to see enemies as they approach the ward’s radius, giving you time to react.

Warding in the Early Game

Much of the early game revolves around warding, especially as junglers attempt to gank lanes before players begin to separate for team fights. 

As a result, having good vision control is critical.

We recommend that you do not drop any wards before 1:25, as they provide little to no information and will most likely be destroyed, providing your enemies with all-important gold.

Warding in the Middle/Late Game

As you move around the map, contesting objectives and towers, you’ll want to have as much vision as possible.

When you’re ahead, try to place as many wards as you can in the enemy jungle, as well as around major objectives like the Baron or Drakes. 

This keeps your gaze fixed on your opponents.

With major objectives, make sure to get your wards in early to spot players as they try to collapse, and use your Oracle Lens sweeper to clear out any vision left by the enemy team.

This means they’ll be walking into the dark, face first, with no idea where you are.


If you’re playing from behind, make sure your wards are more focused on your own jungle and base; otherwise, you may be backdoored without even realizing it. 

Defensive wards in the river, bottom, and top side jungles, and around the mid lane (where teams tend to siege) are essential.


As a general rule, it’s always a good idea to place wards at choke points so that if you see the entire enemy team wandering over to Baron, you can collapse quickly and suffocate them before they get too close.
