Who is Judge Adrian?

Judge Adrian, was elected to Illinois’ Eighth Circuit Court in 2010 and re-elected in 2016 with more than 80% of the vote.

Prior to assuming the bench, he was a partner at the legal firm of Adrian and Dunn after working as a public defender for three years and an assistant state’s attorney for eight years.

Moreover, he has a law degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, as well as mediation and child representation certificates.

He was also the president of the Adams County Bar Association and a board member of West Central Child Care Connections.

Why is he in the Headlines?

On 3 January, Judge Robert Adrian Illinois Political Party overturned Clinton’s conviction and let him go free during a hearing when the boy was scheduled to receive a minimum term of four years in prison.

However, he stated that prosecutors had failed to prove their case, essentially overriding his previous decision and barring Clinton from being tried again.

The Court

“The court is required by law to condemn this young guy to the Department of Corrections. This court will not allow it. That is not right,” he stated in court.

“There is no way that this adolescent should be sent to the Department of Corrections for what happened in this case.” That is not something I will do.”

Nevertheless, the survivor, who exposed her identity in order to speak out about the case and push for justice but is not being named by The Independent, said she fled the courtroom after hearing the ruling.

The Survivor

“I had to leave the courtroom right away to use the restroom.” “I was crying,” she admitted to WGEM.

“I woke up at my friend’s apartment with a pillow over my face so I couldn’t be heard and Drew Clinton inside of me,” she revealed of her encounter.

She added “I requested him to stop several times, but he refused. I finally stood up and shoved him off of me, and he sprang up and resumed playing video games as if nothing had happened.”

However, On Thursday, her father, Scott, talked to The Independent about the situation, accusing Judge Adrian of “muzzling” his daughter by preventing her from making a victim impact statement.

“He has ruined all we’ve worked for in order for my daughter to begin healing… “He ruined everything in 15 minutes,” the girl’s father claimed of the judge.

“We were finally seeing her start to resemble herself again.” The scar was there, and the scab was healing, but the judge ripped it off, and we’re back at square one.”

The Survivor’s Father

According to the father, the judge condemned everyone but his daughter’s attacker for what had happened to her.

“It’s been a difficult journey, and for the judge to spit in our faces and blame my daughter, the parents, and everyone else for what he did is completely unacceptable.”

“You’ve taken my 16-year-old daughter, who was beginning to accept what had happened, and forced her to start over.”

However, Scott believes the judge failed to render a legally binding verdict.

“Your role as a judge is to uphold the law, not to make the law… “You convicted him,” he said. “Your role was to sentence him, and because you couldn’t change the law, you could only modify the decision.”

What gives you the authority to make your own laws?”

What are the Consequences for Judge Adrian?

Judge Adrian was withdrawn from criminal cases and reassigned to civil proceedings on Thursday, after an administrative order made by the head judge of the Eighth Judicial Circuit.

Meanwhile, over 20,000 people have signed a petition demanding that the judge face prosecution for “abuse of judicial authority and power.”

“However, on January 3, 2022, the same Judge Adrian overturned his own decision and pronounced the defendant not guilty.”

“They believe Judge Adrian reversed his own judgment because he just did not want to hand down the sentence associated with the offense for which he had already found the perpetrator guilty,” it continues.

Judge Robert Adrian’s Decision

Judge Robert found Drew guilty of raping the 16-year-old girl during the graduation celebration in may 2021. This aroused nationwide anger

However, Clinton Pleaded guilty to all the charges. His defense argued that the sex was consensual

Despite her October conviction for felony sexual assault, Judge Adrian released Clinton from jail on 3 January after only 148 days, claiming she had received “enough of punishment.”

Judge Adrian has now faced fierce calls to resign from the bench as a result of his apparent miscarriage of justice.
