– Lance O’Brien –
Tanya Roberts, a former Bond girl who died in January, left behind a handwritten will that provided for her pet goldfish and two dogs. Continue reading to find out the rest of the story.
The agreement, which was filed in Los Angeles on Wednesday, leaves everything to Roberts’ common-law spouse, Lance O’Brien, including her $3 million home and pension.
“I know you don’t love me, but you’ve been a true friend and for that, I’m grateful [sic],” she wrote to him, calling him her “best buddy.”
The papers also state that the “A View to a Kill” actress did not want any of her belongings to go to her sister Barbara Leary or nephew Zach (Roberts appeared to misspell Zach’s name as “Zack” in the will.)
Roberts, an animal rights activist, requested that O’Brien looks after her dogs, Muttley and Sox.
If O’Brien sells their $3 million home, Roberts requires him to find a new home for the couple’s pet fish with a “fish lover who won’t toss cigarettes [sic] in the pond.”
“The dogs and fish take care of them as I do,” Roberts stated in his will to O’Brien. The will said that if O’Brien was unable to adequately care for the fish, he was to give them to “Steve Fish Care.”
O’Brien and Roberts
O’Brien and Roberts had been together for 15 years. He was accompanying her when she fell on a trek and was taken to the hospital on Christmas Eve 2020.
Mike Pingel, Roberts’ long-term publicist, friend, and manager validated her handwritten will, which is classified as a “holographic will” under California law.
Pingel had caused consternation in January when he incorrectly proclaimed Roberts’ death two days before her actual death, requiring him to make a correction before news of her actual death was announced.
Roberts, a Bronx-born Playboy cover girl, hit a second-act high with “That ’70s Show,” when she played Midge Pincotti, Donna’s mother, for six years.
Tanya, born Victoria Leigh Blum, “liked ‘That ’70s Show’ more than anything in the world… more than any of her movies,” according to O’Brien, because “she could come home, have dinner at home, see the dogs” after wrapping.
According to the San Francisco-area law firm Pedder, Hesseltine, Walker & Toth, “holographic wills” – handwritten and signed by their author are only permissible under certain circumstances in California.
“It must be apparent that the person who drafted the document intended for it to serve as their will.” There must also be no doubt that the testator, or person writing, is genuine.
There must also be no doubt that the testator, or the person authoring the document, had the testamentary capacity or was of sound mind when they drafted it.
The handwriting on the document must be validated as being that of the drafter.”The state of California does not require a holographic will to be dated in order to be valid.
