However, Leo Terrell made substantial contributions to the legal profession, particularly in the area of civil rights. In 1995, he represented Kumasi Simmons, who had been expelled from Compton’s Centennial High School for violently assaulting the referee. 

Simmons allegedly attacked the referee for hurling racial epithets at him. The Beverly Hills Police Department, according to the attorney, intimidated witnesses who could have offered support for Simmons’ claim.

In 1999, he lobbied the Los Angeles Police Commission to hear testimony from witnesses who said that Margaret Laverne Mitchell, a homeless woman, was shot by police while jogging. When she was shot, she posed no threat to the officers. 

In 2012, he requested that the appropriate authorities look into wrongdoing by trainees at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

On June 3, 1996, the attorney began his radio career as a co-host of the talk show Terrell and Katz. His co-host was former Supreme Court Justice Burton Katz. 

The show is broadcast on KMPC radio in Los Angeles, California, during the week. Terrell was the liberal voice on the broadcast, while Katz was the conservative one. 

The show was switched to KABC on October 5, 1996, and began airing on weekends. He presented the show on KABC till August 15th, 2010. 

Since then, he has appeared as a recurrent guest host on KABC’s The Peter Tilden Show. On the same radio station, he also conducts a daily evening drive show called Leo 2.0 Live at Five.
