The “Bad Habits” singer, 30, spoke on the British morning show Lorraine on Thursday, where he highlighted the significance of his 10-month-old daughter’s name, Lyra Antarctica.
“I understand some people think it’s an unusual name,” the first-time father said. “But my wife’s name is Cherry, and she’s the only Cherry I’ve ever met, and I believe she’s the only Cherry she’s ever met, which I like.
There were definitely more Eds in my class at school.” The actor explained that he and his wife “simply wanted to give her a distinctive name so that she would be the only one.”

However, Sheeran added that the name Lyra may be “more widespread now” as a result of His Dark Materials, a fantasy-novel trilogy he hailed “the greatest love tale ever told” in 2017, according to The Independent, and which has a protagonist named Lyra.
The “Shape of You” singer explained her middle name, Antarctica, was inspired by a vacation the couple took to the region just before Seaborn got pregnant.
“When the tour completed, I’d virtually toured every single continent except Antarctica, so that was always on our list,” Sheeran explained. “So we went down there in 2019 and it was amazing. The most magnificent site on the planet.”
