Betty Sue Palmer: Johnny Depp’s Sister Reveals their Mom Physically Abused them

Christi Dembrowski, Johnny Depp elder sister, testified in court on April 12, 2022, during Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.

Johnny filed a $50 million lawsuit against Amber in March 2019 after she wrote about surviving domestic violence for the Washington Post.

Jury selection began on the first day of the three-week trial between the Pirates of the Caribbean star and American actress Amber Heard in Virginia.

Dembrowski, 61, testified of their traumatic childhood as a result of their abusive mother, Betty Sue Palmer.

She informed the jury about her and her siblings’ upbringing in Lexington, Kentucky, as well as her “calm” father, John Christopher Depp.

Dembrowski remembered her mother getting angry with Johnny and throwing an ashtray at him.

“Father was a kind, kind, caring, and compassionate man,” Dembrowski told Depp’s lawyer Benjamin Chew.

Our mom was the polar opposite, very high strung, worried, anxious, and angry,” they said, adding that their parents had “two completely different personalities.”

Depp idolized his mother, despite the fact that she abused him. In 1988, he even got his mother’s name tattooed on his left arm.

Depp spent his first paycheck as an actor on a modest horse farm in Kentucky for his mother. He would even rub her feet.

Depp had a great bond with his mother.

Palmer was spotted with Depp at the Oscars, where he was nominated for “Best Actor” for his work in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Who is Betty Sue Palmer?

Betty Sue was born in Floyd County, Kentucky in 1935. She has three brothers and sisters.

Betty married John Christopher Depp in 1978 when Johnny was only 15 years old, and the couple divorced. Betty eventually married Robert Palmer.

According to court documents from 1981, “the wife hereby admits that the parties’ little son… John C. Depp II is totally autonomous and self-sufficient.”

Johnny Depp’s father was absent for a significant portion of his life. His mother raised him alone, working extra shifts to support the family.

She died on May 20, 2016, at the age of 81, in Los Angeles.

Depp described her during her funeral as the “meanest human being I have ever experienced in my life.”
