16-Year-Old Girl from ‘Grinning Girl’ Meme Confirmed Dead by Suicide

Kailia Posey, who appeared on the reality show Toddlers and Tiaras and was the face of the ‘Grinning Girl’ meme, committed suicide, according to her family. She was sixteen years old.

Posey became famous after the show’s first episode aired in 2009 when her facial expression became a meme template called ‘Grinning Girl.’

Marcy Posey Gatterman, her mother, posted a heartbreaking statement on Facebook earlier this week to share the news of her death: “I don’t have any words or thoughts. 

Kailia had many talents, including being a young contortionist and being chosen as a high school cheerleader.

The bereaved family confirmed to TMZ that Kailia wanted to pursue a career in acting as well as obtain a commercial pilot’s license.

Since then, the family has established a Teen Crisis Intervention Fund at the Whatcom Community Foundation, with proceeds benefiting students suffering from mental health issues.

A lovely baby girl has died. Please respect our privacy as we mourn Kailia’s death. My baby for life.”

Since then, the post has received nearly 1,000 likes and hundreds of messages of support for Kailia’s family and friends.

“Marcy, I’m so sorry,” one user said. I’m praying for you and your family. She will be sorely missed.”

Many people have left comments on Kailia’s Instagram page expressing how much she meant to them and how much she will miss them. 

Kadan America’s Got Talent judge Bart Rockett wrote beneath a photo of Kailia posing on a staircase: “I can’t believe it’s happened. 

I’ll be praying for you to get through this. She was always so nice to all of us. Peace be with you.”

Mariah Faith, another pageant competitor, wrote, “Thank you for being someone Kailia can look up to. Peace be with you”
