About Logan, Utah

Logan is a city located in Cache County, Utah, in the United States. The population was 52,778 according to the 2020 census. Logan’s population is expected to double by 2050.

Logan is the county seat of Cache County and the hub of the Logan metropolitan area, which includes Cache and Franklin counties in Idaho.

The Logan metropolitan area had 125,442 people as of the 2010 census and was declared the safest in the United States by Morgan Quitno in 2005 and 2007. Logan is also the home of Utah State University’s main campus.

History of Logan, Utah

Settlers were sent by Brigham Young to survey the Logan River’s banks for the location of a fort found in Logan in 1859.

Their new settlement was named “Logan” after Ephraim Logan, a pioneer fur trapper in the area.

They established the city on January 17, 1866. Brigham Young College was founded here on August 6, 1877 (and closed in 1926), and they found Utah State University in 1888 as the Utah Agricultural College.
