Bob Barker was the host of The Price Is Right for decades, but when he wasn’t handing out prizes to contestants on the hit game show, he was spending time with his late wife, Dorothy Jo Gideon. During their 36-year marriage, the couple shared many wonderful memories.
Dorothy first met the TV personality at an Ella Fitzgerald concert in the mid-1930s. Bob was only 15 when they met, but it didn’t take long for him to fall in love. They dated for several years before eloping in 1945 while Bob was on leave from his job as a fighter pilot in the United States Navy.
Unfortunately, Bob suffered a devastating personal loss just as he was cementing his status as a Hollywood icon. The WWE Raw producer’s beloved spouse died in 1981, at the age of 57. Dorothy died six months after she was diagnosed with lung cancer.
Even though Bob was forced to move on after his wife died, a source once told Radar Online that he “never got over” losing his one true love. “They had been married for 36 years, and she was his life’s love.
He never married again. He and Dorothy Jo had been together since they were 15 years old, and he once told me, “I just felt there should only ever be one Mrs. Bob Barker.”
During an appearance on Good Morning America in 2007, the How I Met Your Mother actor, who died in July 2017, explained why he chose to remain single after all these years. “I had no desire to remarry,” he admitted. “[Dorothy] was my wife.”

Dorothy Was From Missouri
Dorothy was born in Springfield, Missouri, on February 24, 1924. Her parents, Jack Oliver Gideon and Dorothy L. Evans Gideon raised her.

Dorothy, like Bob, worked in the entertainment industry. While her husband appeared on game shows such as The Price Is Right and Truth or Consequences, she rose to prominence by singing in commercials. She also appeared as herself in television shows such as It’s Your Bet and Tattletales.
Dorothy Was All About Animal Rights
Dorothy, a former animal rights activist, inspired Bob to look out for animals before he told his fans to “help control the pet population” by having them “spayed and neutered.”
“She was a woman ahead of her time.” She was,” Bob said on Good Morning America in 2007. “She stopped wearing fur coats before anyone else.” She became a vegetarian long before most people did. And I gradually did the same for her.”
Dorothy Never Had Kids
Dorothy put off having children despite the fact that she and her husband had been married for more than three decades. The couple never explained why they decided not to have children.
Bob Will Never Forget Dorothy
Dorothy’s husband has continued to honor her memory despite the passage of four decades. Bob was seen visiting her headstone at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles on the 36th anniversary of her death in 2017.
In a beautiful and touching moment, he cleaned it and left some flowers.
